Yakima Valley Partners Habitat for Humanity welcomes volunteers who are required by a court or school to do community service. While all of our volunteer opportunities are open to such volunteers, the time frame required for the hour’s completion typically means that an individual may need to volunteer in multiple areas or agencies.

Eligibility
Community Service includes anyone who must fulfil:

To be eligible to complete your court-ordered community service, your sentence must involve;
- No convictions of a violent nature
- No convictions of an offence of sexual nature
- No convictions for burglary or theft (some exceptions may apply to theft if enough time has passed)
Requirements
- Disclose details of required community service hours to the Volunteer Coordinator. Include the number of hours required, completion due date, the reason for required hours and a copy of the court order. If no court order is available, a letter from an attorney or copy/citations is sufficient. Yakima Valley Partners Habitat for Humanity reserves the right to accept or deny any volunteer.
- Provide the name of contact information for caseworker, probation officer, public service coordinator or teacher.
- Provide a valid driver’s license or state ID - we do not accept copies.
- Communicate with the Volunteer Coordinator regarding your availability an to schedule hours.
Rescheduling/Cancelling
24 Hours’ notice must be given to cancel or reschedule before your scheduled shift. If you fail to comply, you may not be able to complete your community service hours at Yakima Valley Partners Habitat for Humanity.

Attendance
- Must arrive on time and stay until the end of assigned shift
- Must sign in and out upon arrival and departure
Appearance
All Volunteers must be dressed appropriately and neat for the nature of the volunteer assignment. Modification will be required if attire is deemed unacceptable by management. For any specific questions please email [email protected]

Attitude
- Must treat Habitat staff, participants, clients, volunteers and others with respect and courtesy at all times
- Must use polite, appropriate language
Reasons for Termination
If a volunteer fails to comply with policy or behaves inappropriately, Habitat may terminate the relationship with the volunteer. Specific examples for dismissal include, but are not limited to:

- Calling to cancel on more than one occasion
- Failing to show up
- Failing to provide adequate notice when not reporting for service
- Falsifying hours on volunteer log-in sheet
- Behaving in a manner deemed inappropriate/unacceptable by Habitat Staff
Timesheets
To ensure your community services hours are properly documented, you must sign in and out on the Habitat sign-in sheet at the beginning and end of each shift. Only hours that are recorded on the sign-in sheet - and verified by the on-site supervisor - will count toward your required service.
Need a confirmation letter?
Once you've completed your hours, contact the Volunteer Coordinator at the Habitat Office. A letter confirming your volunteer hours will be provided on official Habitat letterhead by authorized Habitat representatives. Please allow at least 2 business days - do not wait until the last minute.
