Host Churches are a central part of Yakima Valley Partners Habitat for Humanity’s WorkCamp Ministry!
For one week
(Sunday night – Friday morning) at a time during the summer, these churches generously provide:
-
room(s) for no more than 30 volunteers to sleep in
-
a place to stow their gear (perhaps in the same room as the sleeping room)
-
the use of a kitchen facility
-
some space in a refrigerator for some of the camp’s food
-
a key (or two) to the church so that the camp can come and go as needed
-
a place to relax and cool off after a long, hard day of work
(It may be noted that, while a few churches have showering facilities, this is not a requirement. Volunteers are able to shower at the YMCA free of charge.)
Also, it is always nice to have church members visit with the volunteers, either at the church or at the work site during lunch. Some churches have made breakfast one day, had a potluck one night, and some have invited the camp over to their house for swimming or a barbeque!
*If you think that your church may be interested in becoming a host church, please feel free to contact the Volunteer Coordinator at Habitat for Humanity for more information.
